The Bauchi State Government said it has concluded plans to install solar panel to boost power supply to the Yankari Game Reserve.
The Commissioner for Tourism, Alhaji Modibbo Abdulkadir, made the disclosure in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency , on Wednesday in Bauchi.
Abdulkadir disclosed that the project was designed to reduce dependence on power generator and cut cost of electricity generation in the game reserve.
He said that: “Tourists come in and conferences held in the Yankari Game Reserve, but the income generated is used in the procurement of diesel to ensure constant power supply.
“We met with the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) on the need to improve power supply to the game reserve.
“Through effective utilization of solar energy; we could reduce cost, save more and ensure steady power supply to Yankari and adjourning communities,” he said.
Abdulkadir added that a track clearance exercise would also be conducted to ease movement and provide clear vision for human and animals in the game reserve.
